I have never climbed before – how should I start?
1. Fill out a Waiver Every participant must have a waiver filled out prior to climbing, which can be done at the gym or online by clicking HERE. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian (you cannot sign a waiver for a nephew, grandchild, friend, etc). Anyone entering the gym to supervise a youth climber must fill out a waiver as well. 2. Learn how it works Our All Access Pass is a great way to climb for the first time. Our qualified staff will help you learn to climb on our walls and show you the ropes. Includes a day pass, rental gear, one hour of staff instruction, and access to all our bouldering walls. Do I need to have my own gear?
Nope! We have rental gear.
Do you have a shower?
Yes we have a shower and restroom/locker room for changing clothes.
Should I wear socks with my rental shoes?
Optional. Some people (kids particularly) find that socks make the rental shoes more comfortable.
How can I get better at climbing?
Our technique classes are great ways to build your skills and climbing stamina.
How old do kids have to be to take your classes?
Children younger than 5 are welcome to climb in our gym but our formalized instruction begins at age 5. Check out our youth programs.
Can someone else bring my child in to climb?
A child can climb in our gym as long as they have a current waiver signed by their parent or guardian. All children under age 14 must be under direct adult supervision while in the gym. See waiver here.
What is bouldering?
Bouldering is climbing without a rope. Falls are onto a padded flooring system.
What is top roping?
Top roping is climbing with a rope attached to your harness and a belayer to catch your falls.
Do you do birthday parties?
Yes we do! Climbing parties are a great way to celebrate an event. Please see our Rates page for details.
How can I learn to belay?
Take our Belay class! The class occurs weekly and $40 includes instruction plus two weeks of membership.
Is there a fee for the belay test?
What happens in the belay test?
In order to belay in our gym you must pass our belay test. Any of our front desk staff can administer this test for you and there is no need to make an appointment. In this test you will need to correctly and safely: 1. Put on your harness 2. Tie in with a figure-8 follow through and back up knot 3. Perform all the pre-climb checks 4. Set up to belay with a tube style or atc belay device 5. Use climbing verbal commands 6. Exhibit proper belaying and braking/taking 7. Catch a few mock falls 8. Lower your climber
What happens if I fail the belay test?
You may not belay anybody till you pass it after at least another day has passed.
Can I climb if my friend belays me?
Yes, as long as your belayer has passed our test.
Do I need a climbing partner?
No. You can boulder or use auto belay devices.
What is an Auto Belay?
An auto belay is an automatic belay device that eliminates the need for a human belayer. The auto belay takes up the slack as a climber ascends and controls the descent when the climber lets go or falls.
Can I use my grigri in your gym?
Yes, if you have passed our belay test. You must use your grigri in accordance with all manufacturer’s recommendations.
