I have never climbed before – how should I start?

1. Fill out a Waiver
Every participant must have a waiver filled out prior to climbing, which can be done at the gym or online by clicking HERE. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian (you cannot sign a waiver for a nephew, grandchild, friend, etc). Anyone entering the gym to supervise a youth climber must fill out a waiver as well.

2. Learn how it works
Our All Access Pass is a great way to climb for the first time. Our qualified staff will help you learn to climb on our walls and show you the ropes. Includes a day pass, rental gear, one hour of staff instruction, and access to all our bouldering walls. Prices starting at $60 per person.

If you would prefer to experience climbing on your own you can purchase a day pass, rent a pair of shoes and boulder (climb at low heights with no rope) on your own.

What should I wear?

Climbing is a fairly active sport with plenty of movement. Most active wear will work just fine. We do like to remind visitors that you will likely be wearing a harness and be climbing above others while on the walls, so consider clothing that is full coverage and comfortable to wear under a climbing harness.

Do I need to have my own gear?
Nope! We have rental gear.
What types of climbing do you offer?

At Summit Everett you will find bouldering, top rope climbing, 5 auto belays, and lead climbing.

Not sure what that means yet? We’ve got you!

Bouldering is climbing without a rope. Falls are onto a padded flooring system. You do not need a partner for bouldering.

Top roping is climbing with a rope attached to your harness and a belayer to catch your falls. You will need a partner who is 14+ and already top rope certified with us, or can pass our belay test.

An auto belay is an automatic belay device that eliminates the need for a human belayer. The auto belay takes up the slack as a climber ascends and controls the descent when the climber lets go or falls. You do not need a partner to use our auto belays and certification for their use only takes a few minutes with a staff member. You must be 14+ to be certified to use our auto belays.

Lead Climbing is when there is protection points permanently bolted into the wall which you attach to as you climb from the ground up. Before learning to lead climb, most people are already familiar with top rope climbing. In top rope climbing, there is already an anchor at the top, with a rope coming down for the climber and belayer.

Is climbing a kid friendly activity?

Our facility is great for kids over 6 years old with proper supervision, however kids younger than 6 often struggle finding things they can reach and have fun climbing on. We do offer a Tots class for ages under 6 that you can enroll in here

You are welcome to bring in your kids as long as the following expectations are met:

  1. All youth under 18 must have a guardian waiver signed by their legal guardian.
  2. All kids under 14 must be directly supervised by an adult at all times.
  3. Direct supervision at Summit Everett is ACTIVE supervision and is defined as the supervising adult being able to physically intervene when a youth is in need of immediate attention.
  4. We ask that anyone bringing in kids under the age of 14 not supervise no more than 2 kids. If you are bringing kids and plan on climbing yourself, please bring another adult who can actively supervise while you climb.
Do you offer youth climbing classes?

Formalized instruction begins at age 6. Our Youth Intro to Climbing class is offered weekly and is a great way to introduce climbing to kids. This one-time class is also a good way to see if our Summit Youth Climbing School is a good option for an aspiring climber. Check out our youth programs here.

Do you do birthday parties?
Yes we do! Climbing parties are a great way to celebrate an event. Please see our Rates page for details.
Do you allow groups?

Yes! If you plan on arriving in a group of 7 or more, please call us ahead of time so we can inform you of what to expect and we can book your reservation. This will save you a lot of time and get your whole group settled in smoothly. To book a reservation click here

How does the belay test work?

In order to belay in our gym you must pass our belay test. Any of our front desk staff can administer this test for you and there is no need to make an appointment. In this test you will need to correctly and safely:

1. Put on your harness
2. Tie in with a figure-8 follow through and back up knot
3. Perform all the pre-climb checks
4. Set up to belay with a tube style or atc belay device
5. Use climbing verbal commands
6. Exhibit proper belaying and braking/taking
7. Catch a few mock falls
8. Lower your climber.

If you do not pass the test you may not belay until you pass the test. The test can only be taken once a day. There is no fee for the test.

Can I use my grigri in your gym?

Yes, if you have passed our belay test. You must use your grigri in accordance with all manufacturers recommendations.
